Basically I always suggest people hold the pendulum in your cupped hands and take a moment to connect to it with your breath, and your heart, the earth, your spirit. Just a check in, clear your mind and then hold the pendulum by the chain, place it above your hand, and ask it to show you YES. It will move in a direction. Then ask it to STOP. Now ask it to show you NO. It again will move in a different way.

Now you have the basic YES/NO answers from your pendulum!!  It is very fun. I then usually suggest people ask the pendulum questions they know the answer to consciously, so they can strengthen their trust and bond with their new pendulum. Once you feel comfortable that you are getting consistently accurate answers, then go ahead and ask things you don't know.
