Vatican Stone was formed 365 million years ago, when Stags Head Coral was slowly buried under layers of mud in a shallow tropical sea. The mud eventually hardened into Limestone, preserving the fossils beautifully. It is only to be found in County Durham in the village of Frosterley and is commercially mined exclusively in Rogerley Mine, England.
